Immigration

President Theodore Roosevelt believed that legal immigrants should ‘in good faith’ assimilate but, is predicated on the immigrant becoming nothing but an American.  “There can be no divided allegiance here.  Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all.”

Illegal immigration should not be rewarded with access to government assistance programs and a pathway to citizenship.  Legal immigration, especially those individuals seeking an elected office, should obtain full citizenship, not dual-citizenship.  An American cannot serve two masters.  There is one flag, one language, one Constitution and one culture—the American culture.  Assimilation and self-reliance are key to an immigration system that benefits Americans.

Refugee Resettlement

Minnesota is experiencing a growing influx of refugee resettlement.  Along with the new residents comes security concerns, unfunded federal obligations, unplanned impacts on schools, city and county services, as well as, unintended consequences to property values and rising poverty.

The 6th Congressional District of Minnesota needs a moratorium on refugee resettlement until costs and associated issues related to transparency and accountability may be evaluated.  Babin bill (H.R. 3314), provides a moratorium on refugee resettlement while the Government Accounting Office conducts an audit examining federal, state, and local costs.

Education

A well-educated and informed citizenry is vital to a thriving free society.

As the federal government has unconstitutionally interfered in public education, increasing costs, testing, and massive data collecting—the United States educational system has witnessed a decline in academic performance.  The U.S. Department of Education should be eliminated, power of the teacher unions should be greatly diminished, and supervision of education should be given back to the States and more importantly to parents, where it belongs.

2nd Amendment

The right of the people to keep and bear arms is non-negotiable.  The Founding Fathers understood that a free society fundamentally depends on not only the ability to defend oneself and property but, a well-armed citizenry is critical in defending against a tyrannical government.

National Defense

National defense is the foremost mandatory function of the federal government.

However, under the Obama administration military preparedness has greatly deteriorated while the administration has virtually eliminated America’s borders, ignored immigration laws thus aiding and abetting illegal immigration, while growing the influx of refugee resettlement from countries that are terrorist hotbeds.

Today Americans have surrendered privacy rights and freedoms to the federal government in the name of security yet are more vulnerable than ever to terrorist attacks.

Trade

“Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations—entangling alliances with none.”  Thomas Jefferson

Today, as a consequence to NAFTA, the American worker has witnessed the mass movement of manufacturing jobs to other countries like Mexico while simultaneously competing domestically with cheap foreign labor.  Burdensome trade agreements, like TPP and TTIP, consist of thousands of pages of rules, regulations and binding arbitration.  These trade agreements are controlled trade, not free trade–forcing submission to globalization benefiting multinational corporations while harming America’s sovereignty and the American worker.

Government spending and debt

It’s true—it’s not a tax problem, it’s a spending problem.  Washington D.C. collects over $3 trillion in revenue but, continues to borrow and spend leaving the next generation with over $19 trillion in national debt.  The federal government’s latest budget deficit estimates FY2016 will be an astounding $616 billion.

I agree with Ted Cruz’s plan to downsize government by eliminating agencies such as the Department of Education, the Department of Energy, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the IRS by simplifying taxes.

Finally, enact a Balanced Budget Amendment and conduct an audit targeting waste and fraud.  This would include eliminating government assistance programs to illegal immigrants and eliminating grants for refugee non-profits.

Right to Life

Every child has a right to life.  Period.
